Aspire Fitness Is Designing a Training Program for Adventure Races
So you want to get ready for The Swamp Donkey Adventure Race? Are you new to "the world of adventure racing"... or have has your team participated before and 2012 you want to "kill the donkey"??
Jason Penner and his great staff at Aspire Fitness located at 3501 McGillivray Blvd will get you ready! Whether its The Swamp Donkey, The Dirty Donkey or "just to get you off your donkey"... they will get you ready.
Check out this great article: "...Adventure races are a new phenomena in the fitness world, the variety in movements throughout the race appeals to many people of different disciplines. Gone are the days of training for one specific movement or task, enter the world of training for the unknown.
Adventure races can be broken down into four main disciplines, anaerobic recovery, muscle strength (peak output), muscle endurance (sustained output) and proprioception. You can excel at one or all of them but to be truly successful in an adventure race you need to have a balance of all four. I will warn you that I like to talk, so if you're not really into hearing what I have to say you can just skip forward to the training program part of this paper. If you're interested in knowing the method to the madness it might be worthwhile reading the whole thing..." READ JAY'S FULL ARTICLE
All Pain In The ASSiniboine Participants: IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ...
*REMINDER* All Teams and solos are required to have a support person (crew) to deliver and drop off Transition Gear and boats at Beaudry Park before 9:15am. Your support person will remain to cheer you on and to remove Transition Gear and bikes after team/ solos arrive. Park permits will be required for your support vehicles or spectators to Beaurdry Provincial Park. After three years of having entrance fees waived, it will once again cost Manitobans to visit provincial parks as fees are back in 2012. If you're caught gallivanting about without that tell-tale tag on your rear-view mirror you could face a hefty fine.
Pick up a daily park permit for $4, a three-day is $8, or the season pass is $30. They must be purchased before for your support vehicle at Wilderness Supply 623 Ferry Rd. or other camping retail locations. No passes will be available for sale the morning of the event.
We hope that you are getting pumped up for the upcoming Pain in the ASSiniboine Race! The river has been open for a few weeks now and the day is shaping up to be a blast! All participants should refresh themselves with mandatory gear list; particularly the paddling section as you must have each of these items to satisfy the legal requirements for paddling on the river.
The Beachcomber restaurant has once again come on board to offer the food and drink for post race. A food voucher will be included in your race bag at registration. If you have any special food requirements (ie. allergies, vegetarian) please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you. Extra meal tickets for support crew or guests can be purchased as well HERE
A pre-registration package will be arriving in your inbox this month. Please watch for that, print and fill the forms out pre-race in order to speed things up for you on race day. Have a great day!
Good luck to all participants in this great event that combines some of the best "scenic cycling" our city has to offer with a "pleasurable paddle" on the Assiniboine. Below is all the important information to check out before race day!
