Ice Donkey Winter Adventure Race Course Details 2012

Race day registration:
When you arrive at The Ice Donkey Winter Adventure host site The Forks, you will need to check into the registration area located at the atrium behind the elevator. Please complete your waiver, image release and medical forms and pick up your maps, passports, jerseys or bib number etc. Race start time is at 8:30am. The registration and gear prep process takes about 30 minutes. Then getting your gear and TA bags to the appropriate drop site at The Forks may take a few more minutes. Make sure you give yourself enough time to review your maps. Arrive at the start line no later than 8:30 am.
(Full Course - Teams & Solos) - Mass start on bikes at the programming area east of The Forks Walking Bridge on the river. Racers must be ready and in programming area no later than 8:15am. Be sure to have all Transition bags and equipment to staging areas before this time.
START: Winter Biking 12 KM - (Forks to Lagimodiere-Gaboury Park to Forks)
**ALL RACERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET. MUST STAY ON PATHS WHERE INDICATED, ROAD TRAVEL MUST COMPLY WITH ALL TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND SIGNS, RACERS MUST FOLLOW MARSHALS DIRECTION AT INTERSECTIONS **
-Cycle south on the walking section on the Assiniboine Credit Union River trail to the trail terminus at MP1 (marshal Point) Churchill/ Winnipeg Canoe Club.
-Climb the north river bank to Lyndale Dr. Continue east on Lyndale Dr. until you reach St. Mary's Rd. Cross St. Mary's Rd at MP2 (must cross only when marshal allows) and continue east on Caton St until you reach Rue Des Meurons. Turn left and travel north on Rue Des Meurons until you reach Dubuc St. Turn right and travel east on Dubuc St until it dead ends at the Seine River.
-Cycle north on the Seine River until you reach TA1 at Lagimodiere-Gaboury Park. Riders must stay on the river at all times. You will travel under Marion and Provencher bridges. Caution for slick ice.
TA 1 Lagimodiere-Gaboury Park: Snowshoe: 2 KM
**TRANSITION TO the snowshoe portion of the race
-Leave bikes at TA1 and put on your snowshoe equipment.
-Racers must follow the flagged trail and find 3 orienteering punches on this leg of the race.
-Racers will return to their bikes once complete.
All snowshoe equipment must be placed back into your gear bags neatly for race organizers to bring back to the Forks.
**TRANSITION TO the remaining bike portion of the race
-Racers will cycle west on Rue Notre Dame to Ave Tache.
-Cross Ave Tache and enter Parc Joseph Royal. Using the trails, cycle south to Provencher Bridge. Racers MUST cycle UNDER Provencher bridge and Esplanade Riel.
-Climb the steps on the south side of Esplanade Riel and cycle over west over the Red River on Esplanade Riel.
-Immediately after the bridge, turn left and follow the river walk trail. Racers will take a right and then left passed the amphitheatre and return to the Forks dock area, TA2, using the river trail.
-TA2 will be located at the west edge of the Forks docks.
TA 2 Forks: Run - 6.6 KM
**TRANSITION TO RUNNING **
-Run west along the Forks River walk to the Manitoba Legislative Grounds and follow the trail that goes UNDER the Osborne Bridge.
-Continue west on the trails that run behind Granite Curling Club. This path is called "Cornish Path" and weaves through the trees along the river until you reach Cornish Ave.
-Run west on Cornish Ave until you reach Sherbrook St. Turn left and run over the Maryland Bridge (Sherbrook side) to Wellington Cres.
-Turn left and follow Wellington Cres until it become River Ave. Continue on River Ave to Nassau St. Turn left and run to Roslyn Rd
-Turn right and run to Osborne St. Continue running on the west side of Osborne St over the Osborne Bridge and Assiniboine River. On the north side of the bridge, take the stairway to your left and run down to the Forks River walk.
-Run east down the river trail until you return to the Forks and TA3
TA 3 The Forks: Skating 4.6 KM - (The Forks to Churchill/ Canoe Club and return via Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail)
**TRANSITION TO SKATES - ALL RACERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET**
-Skate south on the skating trail to MP1 Churchill/ Canoe Club (check in with marshal) and return to the FINISH back at the Forks .
-Celebrate because you kicked butt at Ice Donkey!
Finish: In programming area just east of Forks Walking Bridge
Post Event Participation and Prize Ceremony located in the south aisle in The Forks Market at 11:45 am
