Final Racer Update - June 24, 2010
Hello Racers! Please read this update carefully as it has some important race updates. This is the final update you will receive before race morning.
Race Morning Schedule:
Registration Opens 7:00
Registration Closes 8:10
Racers at Start Line 8:15
Race Briefing 8:15-8:25
Race Start 8:30
Route:
Due to high water and heavy rains, we will not be using the river trail at the Forks nor will we be using the single track trails at Assiniboine Forest. Racers will ride a series of roads, limestone trails, double track dirt or woodchip trails to reach Beaudry Park. A final race map and route description will be posted on our website by Saturday June 24, 2010. This will also be handed out to racers on race morning.
Support Crew:
Your support Crew must be at Beaudry by 9:30 am (canoe transition will be at first boat launch on your right hand side, 500 m north of roblin blvd). To access Beaudry Park, drive 11.9 km west of the Perimeter Hwy on Roblin Blvd.
Support crew must drop off canoes and pick up all bikes and gear from Beaudry Park immediately during bike transition. Once last racer has left Beaudry by boat, PITA race marshals will be leaving Beaudry Park and will not be responsible for any remaining team or solo equipment left behind.
Pain in the ASSiniboine is an urban race. Racers must follow and obey all marshals, traffic signs along the course. Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification.
Racers are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others along the race course. If racers witness another racer in need of help, they must stop and offer assistance. Contact PITA safety crew immediately using the cell numbers provided to you on race morning.
Be prepared for a long race. Bring lots of food and water with you. Food and water may be supplied by your support crew at the transition area in Beaudry Park. PITA will not be supplying food and water along the race course.
Find a pace. For those racers who are new to adventure racing - find a consistent pace that you can keep for long durations. Starting and stopping is sure to eat up lots of time and keep you from the food and beer at the finish line!
Finish Line:
Will be directly under the railway bridge (on water), 40 meters east of the main street bridge, at the Forks.
Post Race:
All racers are welcome to join us on the Beachcomber Patio for some post race food. Food tickets will be in your race kit at registration. Support crew and friends may join at a cost of $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased at registration on race morning.
All teams and solos will be prized and awarded as they cross the finish line. Due to the length of the race and potential spread of the field, there will be no formal post race awards ceremony. Racers are encouraged to patronize the Beachcomber restaurant and enjoy the day with us. Have some bubblies and cheer on other racers as they cross the finish line after a long hard day.
Have fun and race hard!
